I was photographing once again the local Research Challenge final for CFA Society Finland on 27th February. My first photography assignment for the CFA was around 15 years ago so they are a long-term client for me. I was contacted by Satu Hautamäki, Communication and Office Manager at CFA Society Finland.

This time the venue was Hobo Hotel Helsinki in an excellent place right in the heart of city. I was very pleased when I saw that the lighting was exceptionally good for the photography. I like to work with ambient light and usually flash is my last resort. Nevertheless, I keep a strobe or two every time with me just in case.

The big screen behind the people speaking was great as well. It wasn’t overly bright compared to the ambient light as the projector screens are too often. If the difference is big, it’s hard to get the picture look good. It means a lot of extra time spent in front of the computer editing images and slower turnaround time for the clients. Remember those projectors that are located so low that half of the head or more of the speakers are illuminated by the bright light from the projector? It means difficult editing for us photographers but our work is often problem solving and delivering great images to our clients regardless of the difficult circumstances.

Congratulations to Team Aalto University for the win!
Thank you again to CFA Society Finland for asking me to photograph the event. Please see more pictures on my temporary portfolio site here and information about CFA Society Finland site here!
